An abandoned hay barn in a rural area was purchased to be converted into a home. Retaining the character of the building was deemed critical and an imaginative use of the space available was necessary to provide the accommodation required. The building nestles amongst old trees and dry stone walls. Windows and doors were inserted into the existing openings with as little alteration to these as possible as they were fundamental to the character of the building. The stone floor slabs were used outside in patio areas and additional low profile roof lights were added to bring light into the interior. Chimney/hearths were added. The original roof slates were removed and replaced onto new roof membranes.

A modular kitchen without handles gives the area a simple and classy look. The lack of simple or decorative handles provides a seamless and minimalistic look while maximizing the space.
